From the ancient Berber kingdoms to the Alaouite dynasty that still rules today, Morocco's story is a tapestry of trade, faith, and imperial ambition. Lucas and Luna guide you through the rise of the Idrisids, the first Islamic dynasty, and the golden age of the Almoravids and Almohads, whose empires stretched from Spain to sub-Saharan Africa. Explore the intellectual brilliance of Fez and Marrakesh, the trans-Saharan gold and salt routes, and the strategic port of Tangier that drew Phoenicians, Romans, and Portuguese. Witness the Saadian sultans who crushed the Songhai Empire at Tondibi, the Alaouite sultan Moulay Ismail who built a capital at Meknes, and the European colonial carve-up that made Morocco a French protectorate in 1912. The show delves into the Rif War, the reign of King Hassan II, and the contested Western Sahara. Why does Morocco's pre-colonial past still shape its identity today? From the Berber Imazighen to the Arab conquest, from the Alawi line to the modern makhzen state, this is a country where the past is never past.#Morocco #NorthAfrica #Almoravid #Almohad #Idrisid #SaadiDynasty #Alaouite #Berber #Imazighen #TransSaharanTrade #Fez #Marrakesh #MoulayIsmail #WesternSahara #FrenchProtectorate #RifWar #History #FexingoHistoryKeep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
