Finland's story is a survival epic between two titans. From the Swedish crusades of the 12th century to the Russian Grand Duchy era under Tsar Alexander I, and the brutal Winter War against Stalin's USSR in 1939-1940, this show traces how a small nation carved out its identity. Lucas and Luna guide listeners through the medieval kingdom of Sweden's eastern half, the influence of the Lutheran Reformation under Mikael Agricola, and the rise of Finnish nationalism embodied by the Kalevala epic. Delve into the Continuation War, the Lapland War against former ally Germany, and the peculiar post-war balancing act of 'Finlandization' under Presidents Paasikivi and Kekkonen. Explore the sauna culture, the design legacy of Alvar Aalto, and the language struggle between Finnish and Swedish speakers. How did Finland, once the poorest part of the Swedish realm, become one of the world's happiest and most technologically advanced nations? This podcast uncovers the resilience of a people who turned a harsh geography and political pressure into a national story of grit and independence.#FinnishHistory #NordicHistory #WinterWar #ContinuationWar #LaplandWar #Finlandization #Kalevala #MikaelAgricola #AlvarAalto #SwedishEmpire #RussianEmpire #SovietUnion #ColdWar #SaunaCulture #NorthernEurope #History #WorldHistory #FexingoHistoryKeep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
