Dive into John Calvins groundbreaking work, Institutes of the Christian Religion, a cornerstone of Protestant systematic theology that has shaped the Western thought for centuries. First published in Latin in 1536 and later in French in 1541, with definitive editions in 1559 and 1560, this text serves as an essential introduction to the Protestant faith. Calvin addresses a range of theological topics, including the doctrines of the church, sacraments, justification by faith alone, and the concept of Christian liberty. He boldly critiques teachings he viewed as unorthodox, particularly those of the Roman Catholic Church, which he had once fervently followed before his reformation. The central theme of the book emphasizes Gods total sovereignty, especially concerning salvation and election. Book Two specifically explores the knowledge of God as a Redeemer in Christ, guiding humanity through their shortcomings toward Christ the Mediator.
