Where can you listen?

In a remarkable feat of literary brilliance, Stendhal dictated this intricate and groundbreaking novel in just 54 days. Blending political and psychological realism with a touch of wit, irony, and romance, the work has earned its place among the best novels ever written, as praised by Henry James. Set against the backdrop of northern Italy in the early 19th century, the story follows the idealistic young nobleman Fabrizio del Dongo, his complicated relationship with his aunt Gina Sanseverina, and a diverse cast of characters, many of whom are entwined in the intrigues of the Parma court. For those keen to bypass spoilers, it’s best to start reading at section 5, avoiding Balzacs engaging but detailed introduction. (Summary by Peter Dann)
