Embark on a journey through the colourful life of Benvenuto Cellini as he recounts his unique career, intense passions, and thrilling adventures in his autobiographical memoirs. Begun in 1558 in Florence, Cellinis memoirs are written in an energetic and direct style that showcases his extravagant self-assertion. Hear his chilling contemplations of murder, experience his supernatural encounters in the Colosseum, and marvel at the extraordinary events of his life, such as surviving poisoning attempts twice. His tales of his Parisian adventures, his angelic protection during imprisonment, and his self-discovered celestial halo are captivating and raw. The autobiography stands as a crucial document of the Renaissance period and has inspired literary giants like Tom Sawyer in his quest to free Jim in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
